Climate-Smart Agriculture for Women.

From Fields to the Frontlines of Climate Action

Across Tanzania and many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, women farmers stand at the intersection of two global challenges: gender inequality and climate change. Their roles as food producers, caregivers, and land stewards place them directly in the path of climate-related shocks—yet their contributions and voices are too often marginalized in climate conversations.

At Her Farm Her Story, we are rewriting that narrative.

As a flagship initiative under MazaoHub, Her Farm Her Story is on a mission to empower women farmers as agents of climate resilience and leaders in low-emission agriculture. We believe that climate justice and gender equity must go hand in hand—and our work reflects this conviction.

Supporting Climate-Smart Women Farmers

Through the Her Farm Her Story movement, we enable women to not only adapt to climate change but actively shape a more sustainable future. In collaboration with MazaoHub’s Farmer Excellence Centers and digital tools, we provide women with access to:

  • Affordable Soil Testing
Our soil kits—available through agrodealers and Farmer Excellence Centers—help women understand their land better. By using science-based insights, they can reduce chemical overuse, optimize yields, and restore soil health sustainably.
  • Real-Time Agronomic Support
With our AI-powered agronomy platform, women receive timely, tailored advice on crop cycles, pest outbreaks, irrigation, and more. Our agronomists regularly visit farms to offer in-person guidance, bridging the tech-access gap.
  • Training on Regenerative Practices & Water Conservation
We offer practical training in regenerative farming methods like crop rotation, composting, mulching, and water harvesting. These practices not only boost productivity but also strengthen climate resilience by rebuilding soil carbon and reducing emissions.

These interventions are not one-off efforts—they are integrated into a broader ecosystem of support, including access to markets, microfinance, and land ownership advocacy.

Women: The Unsung Climate Leaders

Despite their central role in rural livelihoods, women continue to face systemic barriers—from limited access to credit and land, to exclusion from decision-making forums. Yet, they consistently show leadership in climate adaptation:

  • 🌱 Custodians of Indigenous Knowledge
Many women farmers rely on passed-down wisdom about planting calendars, soil behavior, and weather patterns, which complements modern agronomy.
  • ⚠️ First Responders to Environmental Shocks
When floods or droughts hit, women are often the ones ensuring food security, managing scarce water, and protecting seeds for future seasons.
  • 🌍 Grassroots Champions of Change
Whether forming women-led farming cooperatives or leading community adaptation initiatives, women are already doing the work—often without recognition or support.
  • 💡 Innovators in Low-Emission Agriculture
From experimenting with drought-resistant crops to adopting organic techniques, women are natural innovators in the face of limited resources.

Aligning with Global Climate Policy

Her Farm Her Story does not operate in isolation. We are aligned with—and actively contributing to—the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan, which calls for:

  • Gender-responsive climate finance
  • Equal participation of women in climate policy
  • Integration of gender perspectives in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

As COP27 emphasized and COP29 in Azerbaijan is expected to reinforce, gender equality is not optional—it is foundational to climate justice. Moreover, the findings of the 1st Global Stocktake stress the need to center marginalized voices, particularly rural women, in the global transition toward sustainable, resilient food systems.

What Her Farm Her Story Is Really Doing

We’re not just training farmers—we are building climate-smart farming identities for women. We’re not just helping them grow more—we’re helping them own land, influence policy, and become visible leaders in agriculture’s transformation.

💬 “When I started farming, I struggled to afford inputs. Now, with soil testing and support from MazaoHub, I use less and harvest more. I’ve learned how to save water and care for the land. Farming is not just survival—it's my business, my power.”
Teresia Kiwango, tomato farmer & Her Farm Her Story champion

By turning smallholder farms into hubs of climate innovation, Her Farm Her Story is showing that climate-smart agriculture is not only possible—it is already happening, and it is woman-led.
